Reading

So, I finally finished the "It felt random" tote last night; don't feel quite up to starting to finish the mitts yet, as I have to start making dinner soon; so I'm sitting on the couch, reading a book (something by The Yarn Harlot) hubby says "Aren't you going to knit??"

Update:

Here is the finished tote, wondering if I should shrink it somemore? It is going to be my library book bag.

TA-DA 2 finished mitts!!! The first is big and loose, the second looks much better, though it is about 1" smaller. uugghh. Oh well, first try.

This leads me to how I am going to approach socks...I am going to try making 2 socks at the SAME TIME on some really long circular needles. I am printing 6 pages of instructions...go to the "My first toe ups" blogs to see what I'm taking about.

Purses----Again

Well, my personal knitting projects have been put on hold, I need to make 2 purses by next Thursday. My LYS had no yarn, due to a big sale, so I ordered from Yarnies...well, 'tis the holiday season and the yarn took a week to arrive, cutting it close. Son #2 was home sick yesterday, so no errands got done, but I was able to make one purse and do about half on the second. I'll do the handles this weekend (between parties) and felt them next week, with delivery on Thursday. whew...

Waiting to mail my Winterwonderland package until after the holidays, it is going to England, and my partner is going away, so she said it would be better to wait.

Winterwonderland Swap

I received the most wonderful package yesterday!!! We came home from my husband's Christmas party; and there was a package in the front door; it was from my partner - Laurie. I received a lovely note, 2 dishcloths: the ever popular snowflake illusion in Spartan green and white, and a MasonDixon in Spartan green. (Can't see this one so well, it is sitting on my Green countertop). Also, some beautiful green stitch markers, a pound of Starbucks special Holiday blend, a sock calendar and Magic stripe yarn (now I have no excuse for not making socks) . Thank you so much Laurie!!!

Now I have to get on the ball and send my package. I've been on my partner's blog, yet I cannot find any clues as to what to send in the package. She is oversea's, so I really need to send it this week. The dishcloths are finished, its the little things that are not ready.

Busy Knitting

Well, it has been quite the busy week, knitting-wise.
I made 4, yes 4, cute little hats with Plymouth Handpainted yarn. The first hat took 2 hours, the next 3, only 1 hour each.
I also finished my dishcloth for the Winterwonderland swap, and started on my KAL December cloth.
Still working on the "It felt random tote", it is taking FOREVER.
That 2nd mitt is just sitting and waiting to be worked on and those darn socks...well, that could be New Year's Resolution; finally make socks :)
I sent my Whoduknit? Holiday package, but haven't heard from my partner to verify she received it. Still waiting to receive mine.

It is cold cold cold today, so glad we went and got our tree last Sunday, 67 and partly sunny. Next weekend starts the round of parties...Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Monday, November 27, 2006

This was in the Sunday paper yesterday...so cute.

Well, I am off to the post office today, going to mail my Whoduknit Holiday Swap package.

Here is one finished mitt :)

Fans

Well, it seems that I have fans out there that actually read this very uninteresting blog!! Thanks so much for making my day :)

Here is an update:

I received my very dark green felted purse from Becky. It is very nice, also received some light green cotton yarn, smelly soap, address book and tape measure (I must have mentioned my favorite color is GREEN)

Finished the first mitt, still have to make the mate and finish the thumb. I think I will do that tomorrow.

And finally, progress is being made on the "It felt random tote". Only 68 more rows to go. The colors are: purple, green (go figure), red and pink. Once felted I think they will fade/mellow out.

I have given up on washcloths for Teachers, they will receive felted box with Caribou Coffee gift card and Yankee Candles.

Still waiting on socks and sweater. Hopefully over Christmas break.

Update

Well, it seems I have too many things going on at once:

MDK Ballband dishcloth
It Felt Random Tote
Medium Felted Box
Mitts!!!! - yes, I finally got the hang of it, switched to bamboo needles and I'm doing much better. I'm done for the week, class isn't until Saturday, and I don't know how to proceed :)

Only one project completed, Blue Medium felted box.

Received partner for the Whoduknit Holiday Swap, just waiting on her reply as to which books she likes...

Oh, I did finish "The Hound of the Baskervilles", it was very good...but there is NO WAY I can start another project to coincide with the book, one of the above projects is going to have to do.

Next month's book is "A Christmas Guest" by Anne Perry, I have it on hold at the library.
Also sitting on the table; "Knit one Kill two" (or something close to that).

Sunday, November 12, 2006

I hate Mitts

I have frogged them 3 times.
I have a stiff neck from leaning over trying to figure out how to knit with 3 (4) needles.
This is not fun.

On a better note, I am enjoying "The Hound of the Baskervilles".

Things to be done ie. KNIT

Well, busy all week, and not a thing to show for it, well, not really:

1-Delivered replacement purse for Deanna (done with purses)

2-Made (1) felted box for Teacher gift

3-Started on "It Felt Random"; you really should check it out, the directions are so funny. I'm hoping to use this as my "Library book bag"
http://turtlegirl76.blogspot.com/2006/03/it-felt-random-bag-pattern.html

4-Signed up for mitten-making class

5-Have yarn on hand for 2nd felted box for Teacher gift.

6-Started reading "The Hound of the Baskervilles" for November Whodunkit, I'm not even going to try and knit a project associated with the book, I have enough projects going...I've never read the book, so that is an accomplishment in itself; and since I started knitting feverishly this past June, I have not read a book (or done any scrapbooking).

7-Socks are still at the bottom of the list :)

Still waiting on:
partner for Whoduknit book/gift swap
partner for the MDK Winterwonderland swap
purse from Knitted purse swap

Knitting is addicting

Ok, what did I learn this weekend?? Knitters are enablers, if that makes any sense.

I found an entire world that I did not know existed out there. I have been reading other knitting blogs and found that they are swaps for just about anything!!!! I found out about a MDK dishcloth exchange and signed up this morning. This is in addition to the Whoduknit swap I signed up for last week. I think it is fun meeting all these new people.

Signed up for a mitten class at my LYS, going to go with my mom. Should be fun. That crosses one thing off my list: Learn how to make mittens.
That just leaves SOCKS.

I did it AGAIN

No, not the felting issue (though the replacement purse is currently in the wash and it's not shrinking UUGGGHHH).

Anyway. I went to a craft show yesterday, customer not vendor, and a friend said she like my purse. I offered it to her, she didn't respond. Her friend said she liked it too, I offered it to her and she took it. I was then left, holding the bag; a red paper bag. Now, I just need to find a home for the brown crooked purse.

My purse swap is ending this week, so I should have my purse from my partner, that is why I'm not rushing to make another one for myself.

Missed the sign up on a fun swap - Knit Mit. But I am in the other ones on Whoduknit.

Going to finish up those ball bands this week so I can move on.

Not much knitting

Not doing much knitting this week. I did receive my Yarnies order today, so I can start on the replacement purse for Deanna.

I started on teacher gifts, but I could not get that into the Ballband washcloths..the first one is just sitting there.

I did join another group, Whoduknit, you read a mystery and knit something pertaining to the book...don't know how that is going to work, but I'll try. This month's book is Hound of the Baskervilles. I also signed up to be in two or maybe it's three swaps in that group.

Halloween has come and gone...time to get ready for Turkey day :)

This would be son #1; costumes are just not so cute as they get older.

A tale of 3 purses

Ok, so today (and yesterday) I am very annoyed with all this purse making. I made sister's brown purse and everything was fine. I felted it and shipped it off, she is happy. I finished Deanna's purse and NOTHING HAS GONE RIGHT. I put it in the washer to felt it; somehow the handles got wrapped around the agitator-thingy and the poor purse strangled itself, this has NEVER happened to me before, 2nd trip through the washer it got straightened out (or so I thought). When it dried, one handle is longer than the other and one side is taller and it is all bent out of shape. Called Deanna, told her the problem, said I would try to fix....3rd trip through the washer, just smaller and tighter, BUT STILL CROOKED AND ONE HANDLE LONGER.UUUGGGHHH
So, this morning I took the purse so she could see it, not acceptable, which is fine, I wouldn't sell it to her as is, but I wanted her to see the colors. She did LOVE my green purse that I made from leftover yarn and bought it off my shoulder!! So I switched all my stuff to the still wet, very crooked brown purse and off I went.
Placed an order with Yarnies for new yarn to make a new purse. My head hurts and I have to go to work.
Here is the crooked purse and the green purse (my favorite, I'll just have to make another, this time with leftover purple yarn).

Monday Monday

Busy weekend, we got flu shots and haircuts, a couple of trips to the hockey rink and we were keepers of the class pet - Mr. Cutie - the hamster. He didn't do much, he just slept a lot.
Sending sister's package today, she is very anxious to receive her 2nd, YES, 2nd purse :)
Delivered Patrick's hat, he likes it, hopefully it will keep him warm this winter. Deanna's purse just needs handles and then off to be felted, then delivered by the end of the week. Maybe I'll make a trip to the LYS to pick up the yarn for the boxes for the teachers.

Had a nice dinner with my husband last night (NO KIDS) it was our 12th anniversary xoxo

........and the Tigers won!! so off to St. Louis we go (not us, the Tigers)

Finishing up

Well, sister's purse is felting as I type.
Dishcloth KAL should be finished tomorrow or Sunday.
I will soon start Deanna's purse.
Then off to the races on Teacher Gifts. I'm planning on making a felted box and a set of dishcloths, both from the MDK book.
Cher from Yarnies said my yarn is in transit, so the sweater will have to wait.
And those darn socks keep getting pushed aside.

Happy 12 years together (on Sunday). Love me :)

WIP

Well, finishing up sister's purse (brown/lt brown).

My dishcloth KAL starts today (totally forgot) so I'm off to Micheal's (big big yarn sale) to buy lots of SnC, going to build up my stash.

Knitting will be boring this week, no Tigers to watch....until Saturday YEAH!!!! World Series.

It's a hat

Look at this, I made a hat :)
with a little (a lot) of help from my mom.

Hope it keeps Patrick warm this winter.

golly.....I have found a new purse that I love!!!This is a modification of an earlier purse, the sack purse, from upnorth. I wanted to use up the leftover yarn. It is a combination of Galway Colornep Sage and Patons Classic Wool Merino Deep Olive. The stripes are Galway Colornep Black. It felted just fine, I was worried that it wouldn't felt evenly due to the Galway being a 90/10 blend and the Patons is 100% wool. It is so soft.

Back to knitting

Well, I am over the bee sting; lots of knitting to do:

Mailing the purse I made for the swap this morning.
Meeting mother for lunch, she took home Patrick's hat to clean it up (she found lots of dropped stitches) and get me started on the decrease.
Made another purse with leftover yarn, just had to make the I-cord handle, then I will felt it.
Need to make purse for sister.
Need to make purse for Deanna.
Going to start on Christmas gifts for teachers.
Still waiting on sweater yarn from Yarnies.
Never did get started on socks.
GO TIGERS!!!

Pumpkin patch

This is what we did today, went on a hayride and picked out our pumpkins. Five minutes after we arrived, I got stung by a bee on my thumb OUCH; so I will be taking a break from knitting for a few days. Good thing, because I have frogged Patrick's hat twice now, I just can't seem to get they hang of the pattern for the decrease. I'm going to try calling Paton's tomorrow and if they can't help, I'm seeing my mom Wednesday and hopefully she can set me straight. UUUGGGGG

Patrick's hat

Here is the start of Patrick's winter hat. I am using a free Paton's pattern that I picked up at JoAnns. The pattern is quite mind-numbing, so far: K2 P2* to end of row, the P2K2* to end of row....but after 7 inches, I get to begin forming the hat :) I hope it fits.

I also joined the toe-ups KAL....now I just have to find the time to get to the yarn store for sock yarn and then sit down and figure out how to make socks. Should be interesting.

Go Tigers!!!

Wednesday, October 04, 2006

All quiet

Well, all the purses have been delivered.
My sister says she is in no rush for hers, so I will finish up the winter hat for Patrick......
Still waiting on the yarn from Yarnies for my sweater. ....
I could make some purses from the scraps of yarn......
I am in a dishcloth KAL.....

I've been thinking about making socks;I do know of a sock KAL...
Finished the purse for my knitted purse swap...don't want to post that picture as my partner may see it before she receives her package....

Monday, October 02, 2006

Perfect!!!

Well, I wish this picture had come out better, this purse if PERFECT!!! I made it a little bigger (per owner request) and I love the way it felted. It was a little strange, after I opened the washer, the purse was out of the pillowcase...and the detergent ball was inside the pillowcase !!! Must be a new secret.

The colors look great, they are black and dark brown (maybe that is why the colors don't show)
I am almost sad to give it to Jill :)

Hope you enjoy your perfect purse.

Off to the post office to mail the Red purse to MO.

Sunday, October 01, 2006

Red pictures

Here is the red purse. It was made with Lamb's Pride Bulky Red Hot Passion M197 and Red Baron M81. It will be shipped tomorrow to Linda. Hope you like it!!!

I am hoping to finish another black/brown one today for Jill, but I have grocery shopping and laundry and then off to a hockey game (go eagles) and dinner with the team, so maybe.

Waiting to hear from Cher at Yarnies, she is special ordering me some Lamb's Pride Washable Wool. I am going to attempt to make a sweater, it is made from the top down...and I hear it is fairly easy.....we'll see.

Also bought some yarn to make a winter hat for Patrick :), but I told him there are 3 purses ahead of him.

Saturday, September 30, 2006

Red Red she said

I will have pictures to post later, but the red purse is FAB-U-LOUS!!!! Can't wait to send it off to it's happy owner!!!

I have already started a black/brown one for Jill, then my sister wants ANOTHER purse :) brown/lt. brown. Then I'm officially caught up, no more purses to make.

I am in a purse swap, and that has been pushed way to the back. I had to order handles for that, those should be here by Monday and I can finish up and mail it to Becky.

Saturday, September 23, 2006

Pinky pink

Finally, a new bright color purse, not that there's anything wrong with brown and black and green. This purse is for Maggie in IL, she is also getting the brown purse from yesterday. Hoping this is all dry by tomorrow so that my sister can take home with her (instead of mailing). This was made with Lamb's Pride Bulky Lotus Pink M38 and Victorian Pink M34.

I used the pillowcase felting method on this purse and the brown one. I think it has an effect on the shape, don't know if I like it....but it sure cuts down on all the fuzzies in the washer and I don't have to shave the purses at the end :)

Next up: red, then brown and black and brown and brown :) But first, off to the Packers/Lions game tomorrow, here's to fun in the sun, I mean rain.

Friday, September 22, 2006

Red Pink Brown Black

Here is all the yarn that was delivered to me yesterday. I am very impressed with Yarnies.com, I placed the order Monday, and it was here, ALL THE WAY from Washington, on Thursday :)

I am so excited to get started. I did start the pink purse last night, hope to finish it up tonight, my sister is driving in from Chicago, so I'll be hanging with her, so I'll work feverishly until she arrives, maybe I can make the handles tomorrow.

Big hockey game in the morning (Go Eagles) and then the Lions vs. Packers on Sunday (no knitting then, just tailgating :)

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Brown bear

Well, wouldn't you know, my LYS finally received their Lamb's Pride Bulky shipment AND my order from Yarnies.com was delivered today. I have enough yarn in my house to keep my busy for at least a week :)

This brown purse is headed to Chicago. My sister will pick it up this weekend and deliver it to the happy owner next week. I hear that one of these purses is going to a new home in Missouri.
Can you believe it??

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Yarn galore

Well, special order yarn is in!! yee-haw. I can now start on the pink purse and the red purse.

Have a brown one all finished, just have to felt it. I made the handles in the car on Sunday. We drove to Frankenmuth to celebrate my oma's 80-something-th birthday. This picture was taken on the bridge. After that is done my sister wants a brown one, and then a brown and black for a lady at work. The orders are just rolling in. Start your Christmas shopping early :)

Monday, September 18, 2006

Sophisticated

Well, no matter how many pictures I take, I cannot get a good one of this purse. I guess the colors are too dark, black and chocolate brown :) It looks very nice in person, very fuzzy and dark in the picture. This is Mrs. T at preschool, she is giving it to her friend. I hope they both like it. Also have another brown teddy bear purse ready to felt. Then I am caught up, I hope the yarn I ordered will be in soon. Big hockey game tonight - Go Eagles.

Thursday, September 14, 2006

Laying low

Not much knitting going on this week. Busy everynight with school related activities. That and all the Lamb's Pride Bulky is gone gone gone!!! There is a rush in my area and none of the LYS have any in stock. what to do?? Found some in L.O., my mom will pick it up and deliver for me, this purse has to be done by next Thursday.

Fuzzy Caterpillar

Here is a black and brown purse. It really does look like those fuzzy caterpillars that you used to see all the time as kids, come to think of it, I haven't seen any of them lately.

The colors are: M05 onyx and M175 Bronze Patina. Going to add the closure and pretty button this morning, then off to be delivered.

This purse is for an old friend not old as in OLD, but old as in we've known her a long time :) I saw her at Target one day, and she simply had to have one, actually, I think she is the one that started this entire purse craze, thanks Deanna :)

Off to start the next purse. Oh wait, I have to work today. Maybe tonight. Oh wait, have to be at hockey rink.
UUGGHH

A better picture

My sister thinks the purses look better against a white background....but I think the purse looks better here.

Sack Purse

Here is the upnorth purse. I felted it once, per directions, but it was still too big, felted again and it was perfect !!! Put in dryer to fluff up, forgot about it, and it shrunk!! UUGGHHH. It is still a nice size, next time: don't get involved with blogs on the computer.

Finished the body of black/brown purse yesterday, today I'll make the handles and felt it. Then I'll show it off (get more orders) and deliver it later this week.

So glad the weather is cloudy and cold, I don't feel see bad sitting inside knitting all weekend.

Saturday, September 09, 2006

Received

The 2 green purses have arrived in Chicago :), now on to the next 5 :)

Busy week, back to school and back to work, 2 jobs this year. I have been exhausted at the end of the day, such a chore to knit, but I manage to squeeze in about 1 hour a night.

Finished the sack purse from up north, will post pictures tomorrow, forgot to take a pre-felting picture UUUGGGHHH. But I did start on a black/brown purse, should have lots done by tomorrow. Also special ordered PINK (yea) and red, waiting on the LYS to restock the brown and black. It seems I have used up their stock. go figure.

Tuesday, September 05, 2006

Ready to ship

Well, I finished up the long handled purse yesterday and felted both of them last night. Funny how they both came out a little bit different. no pictures, as blogger has issues

I am finally making a different felted purse. I bought all the yarn over a month ago, I have a few days, so I am making it. I needed help from my neighbor Stephanie, I can't crochet, so she made the bottom piece for me :) Thanks !!!. I 'll keep you updated on that one. Also have another order, but I can't get to the yarn store for a few days.

First day of school today!! How exciting. But not so excited about the early morning rush.

Monday, September 04, 2006

Finishing up

Well, I was able to finish purse #1 (with short handles) and I have started #2 (long handles). I'll post those pictures tomorrow. Then I think I have a few days to breath. I bought yarn up north (over a month ago) to make a totally different purse, maybe I can make that :)

I'm also thinking of trying a different yarn on these purses, Lion Wool; www.lionbrandyarn.com

Well, school starts tomorrow for the boys, and I go back to work on Wednesday to 1st job, 2nd job on Thursday and Friday. uuggghhh not looking forward to those early morning rushes.

We had fun at the MSU game, though our oldest son did not want to be there and made all of us miserable :).

Saturday, September 02, 2006

MSU and green purse

Well, back to the 6 hour purse. Started this bag yesterday at 4pm and was finished before 10; that included breaks for making and eatting dinner (I asked my husband to please clean up :)

Today we are off to the the MSU vs. Idaho (?) football game...taking the boys with us, so they can enjoy the college atmosphere...tailgates!!!! I just love going back to campus.

I will make the handles in the car on the way. It is fitting, as the purse is about the same green as Spartan green. (Is that why it is my favorite color??)

Also taking my 7 rows of pattern for the KAL dishcloth.

Update on Adriann's purse, I was able to add the magnetic hardware after felting, took a little bit of pushing, but it worked. Used my handy-dandy new glue gun to fasten a pretty button over the hardware, and FINISHED. I'll give it to her for her birthday (40th).

Friday, September 01, 2006

Friday Teddy Bear Purse

Finally!! Tuesday's purse is finished; 3:00pm yesterday. All washed up and it looks like a little teddy bear :) I hope Adriann likes it, she is going to be the test purse for the closure, somehow I have to get that hardware through the felted material...going to be tough. This picture was taken "pre shave", so it will be much cleaner once I present to Adriann.

Then, off to the races, I have 2 purses to make for my sister's friend, both green, one with long handles and one with short.

Also, my KAL dishcloth starts today, I have the first 7 lines to do, wonder what it will be???

Thursday, August 31, 2006

BAR- NA -CLES

Well, here it is Thursday and I have not been able to work on Tuesday's purse. This new job is really putting the kabash (?) on knitting time :). I was at orientation Tues and Wed night, this is prime knitting time, I sit and watch the Tigers and knit knit knit. Not so this week. Hopefully this will be finished tonight, no meetings, only have to take son #1 to the hockey rink for practice. I have an order for 2 green purses, I bought the yarn yesterday so it is sitting and waiting. Then there is another order after that. Man oh man....both jobs start next week, so no knitting what-so-ever during the day.

This purse will be the test for the magnetic closures. The ladies at www.masondixonknitting.com had a lot of good ideas for hiding the hardware. Big purchase yesterday, hot glue gun. We'll see how it goes.

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Tuesday's purse

Here is the purse I started last night, and will finish tonight, or tomorrow. This purse will have the long handles, but I'm going to have to make the I-cord thicker, I'm afraid I made the I-cord too thin on the first purse, but hey, it was my first attempt. The colors are Wild Oak (light one) and Chocolate Souffle. YUM. This purse is for my friend Adriann :). Her birthday is soon.........

Also, my sister has a friend who would like me to make her 5 - yes 5 - purses!!! Oh my, I will be busy over the next few weeks, when will I have the time?? Back to work on Tuesday. I won't have all those free days of knitting, knitting, knitting.

And finally, I am participating in a Knitted Purse Swap, the body of the purse is done, but I still have to do the finishing (sew up the sides and sew on the handles) but that doesn't have to be mailed until November. That purse has bamboo handles, not knitted. I'll post that picture after my partner receives it, don't want to spoil the surprise.

All felted

Here is the long handled purse felted. I LOVE IT!!!!! The colors don't look so good against the purple of the laundry room, but it is very nice.

I must give credit, where credit is due. The purse pattern is from www.masondixonknitting.com, it is the Unpattern for the Button Hole bag. I modified the pattern by adding the handles. I also use Lamb's Pride Bulky yarn, www.brownsheep.com, I love the way it felts.

Same purse, different handles

I am so excited, I learned how to make I-cord, so I decided to try long shoulder handles on the purse. Love the colors, I was trying to use up my stash. This is the pre-felted bag.

The purse that started it all...

This is the very first knitted/felted purse I made. I was very proud of myself. Now it seems that everyone wants one.
I have made 2 in green, 1 in rust/orange and 1 multi colored. The multi colored purse was made with Lion Brand Landscapes. It is a "fun" purse.
